That's an interesting one.

A slight tangent: I use the loci memory system and one of my LD goals is to "walk" the route of my loci associations.

People often say you can do anything in lucid dreams, but that's not really true, is it?

I like it when people give an example along with their statement to clarify what they mean.

I know that, for myself, I can be in the phase in full awareness and loaded with energy and yet certain attempts at certain things can fail.

re: the original question...

I think the answer is yes, *if*, a good, strong state of focus and concentration is maintained throughout the scanning stage. And if the proper baseline of knowledge is there to begin with so that there is a framework for the conscious mind to place and recover the new info in a meaningful and useful manner.

The weight lifting analogy has been used here before. Start small and work your way up in stages so you don't hurt something.

Easily half the time I try to do something in the phase something else happens.

I can think about going to the kitchen and I go through a door and suddenly I fall through a tunnel and then I am in the Antarctic Ocean swimming with penguins....

So I guess, yeah, anything is possible -- just not always the thing I originally wanted.
